Pagpakdul Ta Sadlaw: Songs that Light our Way Home

A benefit chamber concert for the Calamian Tagbanwa Partner-Communities of the Ateneo Human Rights Center and Cartwheel Foundation

May 30, 2026, 3:00 PM

Manila Symphony Orchestra Recital Hall, Circuit Makati

In the language of the Calamian Tagbanwa, “pagpakdul ta sadlaw” means “pagbibigay ng liwanag”—to give light. For the Indigenous communities inhabiting the Chindunan-Alulad-Lamud-Marabal (CALM) Ancestral Domain in Culion, Palawan, it is the humming in their lullabies, the rhythm in their dance, and the hymns in their stories that give them light in their darkest and most uncertain days. For the Calamian Tagbanwa of CALM, to give light is to let out a song; to find light is to retrace the maps of their collective history.

This May 30, we invite you to bask in this shared warmth of community and belongingness as we witness musical performances from Cultures in Harmony and our Calamian Tagbanwa culture-bearers who will play songs of hope, healing, and home. This afternoon will likewise include a talkback session with Cartwheel Foundation, the Ateneo Human Rights Center, Cultures in Harmony, The Arts and Health Institute by MAGIS Creative Spaces, and our guests from CALM.

Proceeds from this event will support Cartwheel Foundation’s ongoing programs with their Calamian Tagbanwa partner-communities and the Ateneo Human Rights Center’s legal and capacity-development efforts toward the protection and security of the CALM Ancestral Domain.

This event is presented by Cultures in Harmony and MAGIS Creative Spaces and sponsored by Manila Symphony Orchestra, The Arts and Health Institute by MAGIS Creative Spaces, and Sun Life Canada Philippines.
